My Enemies Are Men Like Me

While I don't agree with everything Derek Webb says, I do appreciate some of his songs and words.
I have come to give you life
and to show you how to live it.
I have come to make things right
to heal their ears and show you how to forgive them.
Because i would rather die,
I would rather die
I would rather die
than to take your life
How can I kill the ones I’m supposed to love,
my enemies are men like me.
I will protest the sword if it’s not wielded well,
my enemies are men like me.

I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.
